Barcelona 2019 trip
I've been MIA these last few weeks but that's only because we were getting ready for (and recovering from) a short trip to Barcelona. I'd never been before and my husband and I met a few of our friends there for 4 days. We got an Airbnb, took in the sights and ate a ton of food. So, here is what we got up to while we were away in Spain.
Camp Nou
On our first night in Barcelona, we were fortunate to be able to see a Barcelona v Eibar game at Camp Nou. It was my husband and my first time seeing a live football game and we happened to see a goal by Messi and Suarez. The experience was amazing but it was freezing so next time we’ll definitely wrap up warmer!
Carrer d’Aribau
We stayed at an Airbnb on a really nice street called Carrer d’Aribau. Our Airbnb was near so many shops and restaurants and it was inexpensive and easy to get into the town centre. Nearby was a restaurant called Bodega Joan’s where we went almost every day. The food there is incredible and I would definitely encourage anyone staying in the area to give Bodega Joan’s a visit.
This was the terrace of our room at the Airbnb. The room overlooked a lot of really beautiful apartments and a school. It just felt really lively and energetic in the mornings. I'm usually not an early riser but our room had me up bright and early every morning.
Park Güell
We ended up visiting Park Güell which had incredible views and sights. The Park was conceived by Gaudí, perhaps the most famous architect in the Catalan region. The park was really beautiful and unique and the surrounding views were seriously breathtaking.
We climbed to this really high point and got to see a gorgeous view of the city. I only wish my camera was better because it was really something else.
Sagrada Familia & The Gothic Quarter
There is lot of shopping and a number of bars in The Gothic Quarter. Plenty of places to duck in for a drink or some food. We ate at a great place called Bun Bo Vietnam while we were there. I’d recommend the beef Pho if you happen to swing by.
Here we are in front of Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi in the Gothic Quarter.
As for the Sagrada Familia, it was beautiful from the outside, though there were lots of crowds. We opted not to go in. It is paid entry so anyone wanting to go inside should be aware.
Food and shopping
We were fortunate to visit Barcelona during the winter sales. To be honest, our bags were heaving at the airport because we did a fair amount of shopping.
As for things like food and travel, our meals were really reasonably priced. There were 4 of us and our meals usually ended up costing between 30 and 40 euro in total. The most we paid was around 20 euro each for one meal. We went to a lot of Tapas places (of course) so we did sometimes end up having to eat more than once in an evening because the portions were so small.
When it came to travel we mostly took the metro and taxis. We did a fair bit of walking as well, though. Taxis were typically between 10-25 euro. Again, there were four of us so we never ended up paying very much to take taxis.
We had so much fun in Barcelona. It was my first time in a non-English speaking country (though I did have some high school Spanish skills to see me through) and I would recommend going because it is an absolutely gorgeous city.
