Escape to Lisbon - Photo Diary

In August my husband and I took a trip to Lisbon with our good family friends. It was everyone's first time in Lisbon and everything about it blew us away. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and my friend Ande found an incredible Airbnb in Rua d. Rosa, which was quite close to Bairro Alto.

Even though we were only there for a couple of days we managed to pack in a beach day, boat ride, plenty of exploring and some great food. We opted to skip most of the touristy stuff but we did end up making our trip a blend of well-planned outings and good old fashioned spontaneity.

While I didn't keep meticulous track of everywhere we ate and drank, I'll give the highlights of our 2.5 days in Lisbon, Portugal.

  • We visited Praia de Carcavelos for a fun beach day. We also ate at an amazing restaurant right off the beach (I had octopus).
  • Later we took a boat tour on the River Tagus (our guide spoke about 6 different languages!)
  • We also hit up the Time Out Market (that wasn't our favourite, to be perfectly honest–you can probably give this one a miss because it gets so crowded and there are plenty of better local eats)
  • At night, we went out in Bairro Alto and it was SUCH a good time. There were loads of different bars and lots of young people buzzing around. It was also a 5-minute walk from our Airbnb, which made going out even more convenient.
  • We took a Tuk Tuk tour through Alfama and up to one of the highest viewpoints in Lisbon.
  • LX Factory was definitely a fun outing as well. There were many different shops and places to duck into if you have a spare leisurely day.
That's not everything we did during our short trip but these are definitely the things my group of friends had fun doing. If you're considering a trip to Lisbon, definitely go! We're already busy plotting our next trip back.
