Dangerous Woman

So I guess, when you run in pop journalist circles, one of the most criminal things you can say is that you're not fanatical about Ariana Grande. She has a great voice, she makes a great "package" and she's been marketed well enough to have truly made an impact on the industry. But, I'm just going to say it. I've always been ambivalent about Ariana.

Saying that, "Dangerous Woman" is my pick for the release of the week and it's not without massively tough competition. ZAYN's "Like I Would" came out this week and so did Gwen Stefani's newest, "Misery". Both brilliant singles in their own right. But both will have to take a back seat to Ariana's most mature offering to date.

Sonically, the vibe of "Dangerous Woman" is lush and sensual, sounding a tad bit like The Weeknd's 2015 hit, "Earned It" (both in composition and tempo). Ariana lives for a big chorus, so to hear restraint on a chorus from her shows, perhaps, a confidence that wasn't there previously. Of course, she has to come through with a massive final delivery of said chorus but the slow burning nature of "Dangerous Woman" is a welcome treat from the 22 year old.
