If you would have told me that I would be obsessed with an instrumental math rock band from New York, I would have probably asked how and why on earth I would be into such a thing.
I stumbled across Battles purely by accident on one of my Soundcloud hunts and have had trouble listening to anything else since.
There is a really tense, yet focused, quality about the music Battles makes. I don't see how any of it can be played live as it's extremely complex and intricate from a compositional standpoint. A lot of it reminds me of Foals but, like, if Foals took it one step further and really amped up the energy in their music.
I was having trouble sleeping the other night and I just played the entirety of La Di Da Di (their latest album) and, despite how exciting and high energy the music is, I was off to sleep in mere minutes.
For fans of Foals or Everything Everything, I would definitely recommend Battles and their new record, La Di Da Di
