All We Need - Review

Post rap wunderkind, Raury, is truly blowing the lid off the industry. His EP, Indigo Child, was a brilliant collection of rap, soul, and indie driven music that shed light on how new artists can blend genres to outstanding results.

His latest, All We Need, is another arty project with rhymes that feel more like poems than they do rap songs. September and October have been cluttered months for musical releases but All We Need is truly all you need to hear this week.

Many of the songs on All We Need are borderline fight songs. "Revolution" for instance is a percussive protest anthem that beats heavy and hard alongside Raury's intense lyrical prowess. "Forbidden Knowledge" is similarly inclined but composed rather differently.

Some of these songs we have heard before. "Devil's Whisper", which appeared on Indigo Child, rounds out the album near the middle and "Her" glows beautiful and wild toward the end.

Trap tears is a genre anomaly that fiercely demonstrates the power of a creative approach to production and song writing. It is certainly one of the best on this album of greats.

Raury switches it up for the obligatory dedication to his mother, "Mama". "Everything will be all right my dear," he croons dreamily over a soulful backdrop reminiscent of the 70s.

All We Need is beautiful. 19 year old Raury is nothing less than the future of music. His seamless blending of genres and influences highlights, not only skill, but the power of a creative mind. If you hear one thing this week, make it Raury's All We Need.
