If you’re not aware of this yet, I kind of love Karen O. Everything about her, her music, her persona, and the quality of the creative projects she takes on has made her one of my favourite musicians. I would venture to say that she is, in my opinion, one of the most important female artists of the last 20 years. I had a listen to her newest release Crush Songs and will post a review of it soon. But I thought I’d post this video for the moment and talk about why I’m so drawn to it.
Earlier today Spin Magazine posted the Sofar Sounds video of Karen performing ‘Trapt’ which was a single released earlier this year before her album dropped. Karen’s voice is immaculate and her performance, effortless. The rest of Crush Songs is, in a similar way, endearing and effortless. I love that each song on the record is live performance ready and there isn’t any need to layer the songs until they’re unrecognisable. Karen just seems like the type of girl whose talent would forever leave me in awe. What do you guys think of Karen O’s new music?
