This Week's New Music: RATED

I haven't done one of these in a while. Let's see if I still remember how to rate new music.

Fifth Harmony - "Down" ft. Gucci Mane (6/10)

Fifth Harmony sans Camila Cabello is still hugely viable. Unfortunately, the Gucci verse is not. "Down" is a standard mid-tempo bop; repetition is key but the Gucci verse dampens things.

Arcade Fire - "Everything Now" (8.5/10)

"Everything Now" is dynamic, energic, and just the type of ABBA-adjacent disco pop that we need 300% more of in music right now. Arcade Fire rarely miss the mark.

Lorde - "Perfect Places" (8/10)

"Perfect Places" is really well crafted emotional pop. The chorus on this is catchy and there are some emotional beats that really land.

Dua Lipa - "New Rules" (5.5/10)

I quite like Dua Lipa but I wonder if her music leans way too heavily on the modified "island beats" that really lived their life in 2015. "New Rules" is the quintessential "dump him and move on, girl" jam. It's perfectly fine. I worry about the effectiveness of the chorus on this one but, as I said, it's perfectly fine.

Great Good Fine OK - "Find Yourself" (9/10)

Great Good Fine OK really don't make mistakes. They're back this week with "Find Yourself", a slowburner that will hit you right in the 80s feels. It's probably my pick for song of the week. For anyone who likes solid 80s tinged pop.
