Halsey - "Not Afraid Anymore" (6.5/10)
This will probably do well commercially. I'm a fan of Halsey and I think, structurally, she's doing something unique to her body of work. The chorus is really big, which actually saves the song. "Not Afriad Anymore" is fine but I'm looking forward to Halsey's non-50 Shades releases.
Julia Michaels - "Issues" (7.5/10)
Sonically, "Issues" is packed tight with layered vocals and very little in the way of production. Really solid debut effort from the songwriter.
Flo Morrissey and Matthew E. White - Gentlewoman, Ruby Man [album] (8.5/10)
This is definitely my favourite album release from this week. Morrissey's vocals are positively haunting as she takes point on covers album,
Gentlewoman, Ruby Man. Trust me, this is the soundtrack to your Sunday.
Chainsmokers - "Paris" (2/10)
It's a no from me.
The xx - I See You [album] (7.5/10)
I'm glad The xx have found significant space for growth on this record. There are also some low-key bops on this release which, I mean, you really never know if you're going to get that on an xx record. I also continue to live for Olly and Romy harmonizing and literally finishing eachother's sentences (please see Replica)
Blaenavon - "Orthodox Man" (9.5/10)
Gosh this release is so good. "Orthodox Man" has a math rock element to it coupled with a really buoyant bridge and chorus. It's a strong one from the boys.
