6 Political Podcasts To Check Out Before The Election

This blog doesn’t often get political, but I can say that I have a very healthy interest in American politics. To keep myself abreast of everything that has gone down over this…very long election cycle, I’ve got a bunch of political podcasts in my rotation. So! I thought I’d share with everyone some of my favorites.

Fair warning. I’ve been a bleeding-heart liberal just about my whole life so all these podcasts skew all the way left. You’ve been warned.


Rachel Maddow Podcast
Rachel is one of the most respected names in cable news. I’ve followed her work since I was in high school but I only started listening to her podcast in early 2015. Her unique perspective and able voice in her genre make her one of the most important voices in news.


Keepin’ It 1600
Keepin’ It 1600 is hosted by former Obama White House advisers, Jon Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer. The pair give a smart insider’s look at running an election, as well as policy and the White House. The show is great for laughs as well different perspectives (they have Conservatives on as well!)



Politically Reactive
Politically Reactive is hosted by W. Kamau Bell and Hari Kondabolu. Although they would balk at being called activists, they’ve both used the mediums available to them to advocate for social change. There have been a couple of episodes I haven’t agreed with (they had a Green party candidate on the show advocating for some truly insane things), BUT most of the time they have really great guests on the show.

Slate Trump Cast
So, the other podcasts I mention tend to beat around the political bush. So to speak. Slate’s Trump Cast does not do anything of the sort. In the past, Slate’s editorial positions have sometimes made me wary. Fortunately, their podcast game is on point. In the last couple of weeks I’ve started listening to Trump Cast, The Gist, and Political gabfest which I like a whole lot. The shows are smart, funny, and unabashedly liberal.

Anderson Cooper 360 + Jake Tapper
For my news I go to my girl Rachel and then my boys Anderson and Jake. Jake has a great reputation for being hard on everyone and biting back when people get on his shows to tell blatant lies. Anderson Cooper is also really great. He is super professional and, despite how they truly fry my brain, makes an effort to have Conservatives on his show as well.
