Today has been a good day. If you somehow weren't aware, the incredibly talented Solange Knowles dropped A Seat At The Table for your listening pleasure.
Solange has been working on this record for the last four years--which I can believe. It's a beautiful record steeped in blackness, black emotion, and the black experience.
I think I'm going to skip doing a review on this one because it's just art. It speaks for itself, and you shouldn't rely on any reviews to tell you how to feel about A Seat At The Table.
I started writing #ASeatAtTheTable almost 4 years ago...— solange knowles (@solangeknowles) September 29, 2016
I am honored and humbled to share it with you midnight tonight. pic.twitter.com/zDRzHdibcY
I will say that my own first impressions are that, tonally, the record strikes a really great balance between adult contemporary and new soul. Solange is unabashedly, unapologetically, unreservedly black in a musical space that so rarely allows that.
Thank you, Solange.
