Even beyond just regular podcasts, I've been really into storytelling and mystery podcasts lately so I thought I'd would share four of my new favourites.
The Black Tapes Podcast
I was a little late to this one but I'm here now. TBTP is hosted by Alex Reagan and follows her as she tries to get to the bottom of a set of unsolved paranormal mysteries. The focus of the podcast is also the enigmatic Dr. Strand--founder of The Strand Institute. It is billed and produced documentary style but is obviously fictional. That definitely does't take away the brilliant storytelling, of course. I finished the all the episodes in less than 36 hours and there were times as I lay in the dark and listened to TBTP that I was genuinely freaked out.
The Truth Podcast
The Truth is amazing. Hands down, you just know that everything they're doing is done by consummate professionals. The production is truly something to behold and each story told is more thrilling and engaging than the last. It's not a serial, so you can start at any episode, anywhere in the series. Many of the stories are intriguing commentaries on human nature, and many others are simply great stories told well.
Lore
You may have heard of Lore. It's a brilliant exploration into the origin of the supernatural and downright frighting folklore that can't seem to disappear from our cultural discourse. Lore is a deep dive that almost always touches on the key moments in a particular piece of lore. If you've ever wondered about Vampire or demon folklore, this is your podcast.
Tanis
Tanis comes from the same people as The Black Tapes Podcast. It's just as creepy, layered, and endearing as TBTP. This time it's Nic Silver diligently guiding us through a mystical power/location/thing called Tanis. It's a bit more tangential than TBTP but is, nevertheless, a super engaging listen.
