About A Dolla

I don’t usually review hip hop tracks on this blog, but I thought it couldn't hurt to weigh in on the new Mike Davis/Meek Mill/Keke Palmer release, 'About A Dolla'.

In all fairness, I was actually looking forward to this track dropping. It had received a decent amount of social media buzz and of course people are anxious to hear Keke Palmer as a featurette with Meek Mill.

Sadly, however, the track falls far below expectation. Palmer’s vocals are strong enough but don’t last nearly as long as they should.

Mike Davis’ robotically delivered cliché lines fall flat throughout the rest of the track. The liberal use of autotune makes the entire thing feel weak and uninteresting. For a track with three artists, the length of the track is too short, making it feel rushed and amateur. Palmer’s featurette feels oddly placed and does nothing to bolster the track, instead having the opposite effect of making it feel disjointed.
